DIY Popular Hime Gyaru Double Bow Hair Accessory

Hey guys! I've been tumblr-ing most of my days away lately, and of course much of that was done to find inspiration for new tutorials. One of the trends that I found to be particularly common was the "double/triple bow" attached by pearl string. I figured "Hey, I can do that," and thus this tutorial was born.

Some example pictures, yes?

Almost all of them have one :O

I gathered most of my inspiration from the very last picture because it seemed to be one of the more simple designs :) If you want to see a tutorial that uses flowers and bow instead to make a similar accessory, check out this one from The Glass Princess. Hers is more floral-y and bling-y =P

You'll need:
  • ...stuff. No, seriously. Whenever I take the picture for my "materials shot" I'm usually just throwing some things that I might use in a pile. I don't usually use them all. I'm not certain that anyone notices X)
  • Material for making a large bow
  • A large flower
  • Wide ribbon for making a smaller bow
  • A button for the centerpiece of the small bow
  • Bobby pins
  • Bead string (or in my case, an old bracelet)

Start by making your "large bow." Nothing fancy here~ we all know how to do this :) I don't have size recommendations...I just eyeballed it. Think about what size you feel will be practical to wear on your own head. If you don't have huge Himena Osaki hair, then you'll probably want a smaller bow than she has to avoid looking off balance X)

Add lace trim and a flower centerpiece.

After re-referencing the photo, I noticed the lace trim in the center ><, so I added that as well.

This is a bracelet that I don't wear. The random letter doesn't make much sense, and obviously has no place on our bow.

...so I just put a smaller bow over it xD

I just slipped the end of the bracelet through a bobby pin, because I will probably want to wear the bow individually at some point (rather than attached to another bow).

Make a smaller bow with wide ribbon, and place a button in the middle as the centerpiece.

I'm using the same method of attachment for the smaller bobby pin.

Attach the bobby pins to the bows and you're set :)

Hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial ^^~

11 Things About Me:
  1.  I like to read, but I haven't had time to really get into anything lately. Since it's now summertime, I plan on finding time to pick up some of the books that I've been interested in.
  2. My room is always messy.
  3. I'm pretty much nocturnal.
  4. I have a pretty solid makeup collection, but I don't know how to use anything besides foundation, concealer, mascara, and "lip makeup" properly.
  5. I hate wearing short sleeves =/
  6. I drink a crazy unhealthy amount of coffee each day (About 7 cups, according to my coffee maker).
  7. I'm a pretty opinionated person.
  8. I like to spray my bedsheets with "Moonlight Path" before I go to bed. It seems to relax me, which is fantastic because I have awful insomnia ><. Strange?
  9. I prefer the Little Twin Stars over Hello Kitty.
  10. I don't have any spectacular goals for my future. I actually kind of like the idea of being a homemaking housewife x).
  11. I like shopping for crafting supplies more than I like shopping for clothing or shoes.
Patricia's Questions for Me:
1) Tell me how much do you love pizza?
Quite a lot, much like most people x)

2) Do you watch anime? If yes, what is your favorite.
I don't watch anime now, but I did as a young child when "Toonami" was a thing x) I really liked Sailor Moon
3) How would you describe your fashion style?
Half of the time it's "comfortable," while at other times it's more...um..I'm not sure x) I wear a lot of dresses I suppose...
4) Do you prefer girly clothes?
Yes.
5) What are your favorite magazines?
I don't read magazines nowadays. I find that I can get the same kind of material online, so I feel as though magazines are kind of an  outdated...thing.
6) Do you know any foreign language?
I studied French for three years and am currently studying Chinese.
7) If you could be a character for a day, choose one!
I don't think I can choose one. I quite enjoy being a human being that exists within the tangible realm of reality x).
8) What will you do when the zombie apocalypse will come?
I don't have a particular plan, so I suppose that I'd offer myself as some sort of sacrifice. No "action hero complex" here xP
9) Are you ready for 12.12.12, the magic year!
Certainly ^^

10) Do you prefer skinny or normal models?
How about healthy models? xD
11) If you could be a model, choose a magazine.
I couldn't choose one =X but probably some sort of clothing catalog.

My Questions:
  1. Are you more of a "day person" or a night person?
  2. If you don't plan on leaving the house, are you the type of person to get dressed and primp anyway?
  3. Do you ever write letters?
  4. If you could have any super power, which would it be?
  5. Do you have any stuffed animals?
  6. Are you comfortable around people that you don't know? (Imagine that you're at a party where you don't know anyone. Can you make friends instantly, or are you socially awkward?)
  7. Do you prefer to wrap gifts or just use gift bags? x)
  8.  Do you think there's anything wrong with photoshopping pictures?
  9. Do you wear high-heeled shoes often?
  10. Do you write in a diary?
  11. Do you get enough sleep?
I Tag (Hopefully none of these people have already done it T_T I didn't bother checking..):

Shopping for DIY Supplies ♫ (My Tips and Suggestions)

Hey everyone │︵ ︵│ I recently did some haulage, so I thought it would be a good time to give out some tips guided by my purchases.

Firstly, let me point out that you can find supplies anywhere. Really! Well...almost anywhere.

Most craft stores will have SOMETHING that you can use ><

This might sound strange, but it really does take practice. I started getting into DIY in about 8th grade (age 13), and the first time I went shopping hardly anything I picked out was usable X)

Quick tips:
  • Try not to look for anything in particular. When you stay restricted to certain things, you can really miss out on awesome buys!
  • Know your style. This is probably the most important tip, so I probably should have put it first X) Anyway, super important! Focus on what you like, rather than what you think you should be buying for the style that you're inspired by. This is where I went wrong my first time. The items that I had purchased were probably usable for the style, but I couldn't inspire myself to do anything with them because I wasn't excited by them.
  • Set a price limit. This is one that I have a hard time with myself >< Just try keeping a running total in your head whenever you toss something into your basket.
  • Check the sale racks. Do I need to explain? Most of my supplies were purchased while on sale.
Onwards! Let's see some examples ^^~

Golden thread rope thing. This was on sale for $0.25/yd, and I snagged all 4 yards that were left. I have a tutorial in mind where this may be useful ^^

$1.00

Teddy bears. I've done quite a few tutorials already where small animals have come in handy. I found these in the baby shower aisle. They weren't a spectacular deal, but I know for a fact that I'll need them eventually.

$2.99

Jewelry parts! It's been a long while since I've made any jewelry (I used to make jewelry ALL the time), but these were such a good deal that I couldn't pass them up. Would you guys be interested in a jewelry tutorial?

$0.97 each

Plain wide ribbon. Things like this run out sooo quickly. This is one of the most useful items because it can be used to make quick bows ^^ These were found in a sale bin. It took some digging to find the good ones >:)

Patterned ribbon. This was in the same sale bin. Well, there's always room for variety, right? :)
$1.99

Lace trim and a quarter yard of fabric. I'm not even sure that I've done a tutorial where I have not used lace trim X) It's always good to have ^^ The fabric was the same price as each of the lace spools, and I thought it would make a nice usamimi headband :)

$1.99 each

This craft store always has spools of lace trim at cheap-o prices. I love it because lace trim is usually so expensive >< Hence, I bought five spools.

Misc. others (things that weren't such good deals)

Permanent fabric glue: $3.99
Patterned ribbon: $3.79
Pack of 40 small bows: $4.29
Victorian heart buttons: $2.29

Now for one of the most helpful tips. This applies to shopping at thrift stores...

CURTAINS!!

Materials are so expensive. Just buy cheap curtains from thrift stores instead >_> You'll get several yards of fabrics for what you would usually pay for half of a yard.

Just make sure that you wash them first.

I'm planning on using this one soon for a tutorial ^^
The curtains were $3.99 each.

Anyway, I hope this was helpful for someone with questions :) If you have any more questions or a request, tweet me @magicpearlheart

...or you could always email me. My email is on my blogger profile page...so yeah, there's that.

DIY Hime Gyaru Heart-Shaped Handbag

Hey everyone ^^

I know that I posted a handbag tutorial last month, so it's kind of soon to be posting one so quickly. Nonetheless, I hope that someone enjoys it :) This tutorial is actually extremely short, as it was very easy to do.

I saw this handbag on Tumblr and thought to try emulating the style. BTW if you guys can read the small print, I'd love to know whose blog this came from! XP

EDIT: I saw in a recent post that The Glass Princess owns this bag ^^ Check out her post! The bag is way prettier than I'm allowing it to look on MY post, so that mine doesn't look awful in comparison X)

You will need:
  • At least 2 different colors of lace trim
  • A round handbag
  • Floral pieces
  • Pretty material (to make a bow)
  • 1/4" ribbon

For the first step, I used pink lace trim to make an "outline" of the heart shape that I'm pursuing. This was kind of difficult T_T

Next, I used a white lace trim to outline the inside shape of the heart, thus making it look a bit more refined in shape.

Cut a piece of material to be used as a bow. Size is relative to the size of your bag.

The previous shot didn't capture the sparkle on the fabric as much as I'd have liked, so I'm including this one as well ><

Attach your bow to the center of the purse.

Use floral pieces to fill in the remaining empty space and as a centerpiece for the bow.

That's all ^^ not much detail in this post, but I wasn't sure how to be more specific X) I felt like it was so self-explanatory. My end result really doesn't have anything in common with the original with the exception of the shape. ><

My purse collection is starting to look like a decoration!! @_@

If you have a request for a certain tutorial or from a picture, you can tweet me @magicpearlheart or leave it in the comments. I'll try my best to try it out and make a post :)

DIY Hime Flower Crown/Heaband

Today's post is awesome because it was a request :)
Monica made a suggestion for a flower crown, and I thought it would be something that I would be able to do. Stay tuned ^^~
You will need:
  • Garden wire
  • A material that wont clash with your flower colors
  • Flowers with individual "stems"
  • 1/4" ribbon in a color that matches your theme
  • Hot glue

When I said that you will need flowers with individual stems, this is what I meant. Each flower is separate.

Use wire cutters to cut a piece of the garden wire to your desired length. Just a tip: Smaller crowns often look a bit cuter :)
Then, cut a strip of fabric (1"-2" wide). You can use one looong strip or several strips of medium lengths. It doesn't really matter...I promise ^^

Bend your wire into a relatively circular shape.

Wrap your material around the wire, and use a bit of hot glue every few wraps.

Wrap the stem of a single flower around the band of the crown.
Repeat this step while starting a pattern that will be maintained throughout the headband.

Lastly, tightly wrap your ribbon around the "stems" of the flowers, using hot glue to secure.

Now you're done ^^ Enjoy your crown~
